Camping for a week, In Payson…

We’ve been trying to make a habit of going to Payson for the week of July 4th. It’s not really camping, as the campground is right outside town (like, really, it’s across the highway from the Home Depot) but it’s cooler up there, and it’s a get away from nasty, ebil oppressive heat that I live in.

It was warmer this year, and because of fire danger we weren’t allowed to have campfires, but we still had a great time. It rained most afternoons, and cooled things off. The kids had a blast running around playing in the water and playing with their cousin.

Next year Hubster won’t be with us. At least not if things go as scheduled. We’ll see how things go, I’m able to take the trailer up, set it all up, take it down and bring it back, so we can still go… I’m also working on other plans through the next year…  We want to enjoy time with Hubster while we can.

Happy Holiday!

As I prepare today and tomorrow to go away for the week of Fourth of July I want to take a few minutes to thank those who have made sacrifices for our country.

Thank you to all our military servicemen and women, all branches, past and present. Your service means the world to me.

Thank you to the families of all our military servicemen and women. I know how hard it is to live without your loved one, worried that they may never return to you. I’m only thankful for the technology we have today that makes it easier, I can’t imagine what it was like even 30 years ago when phone calls were rare and mail took a month, and there was no internet to speed an email your way or webcams to let you see your loved one.

That said, I wish you all a wonderful weekend, I’m going to head out to where it’s not so hellishly hot, and try to enjoy some quality family time.

Happy Mother’s Day.

I hope you all had a good mother’s day. We had a pretty good one. We woke with extra kids, since the day before was kid 1’s eleventh birthday and she had a sleep-over. They got up and mixed up muffins for breakfast. And then lounged around and watched tv until parents came to pick them up, they were all gone by 11.

After that I instructed the kids to clean up the mess that they had made overnight and I went and took a long, relaxing bath. Hubster is working a new schedule, that has him working Sundays (but off on Fridays) so there was nothing going on around here (the kids were entertaining themselves, I love how they do that now that they’re older) and I had gotten very little sleep the night before (of course, the sleep-over was much more of a stay-up-over)  so I took a nap wile listening to a movie… and then I sat on my bed, letting the kids watch kid tv in the living room and watched my own tv while working on rewrites.

After Hubster got home they gave me my Mother’s Day present, the folding lap table I had been wanting for my laptop, working on my laptop in bed or in the living room is much easier now. I love it. We had other things that had to get done, and I hate the Mother’s Day crowds in restaurants so we picked up Panda Express for dinner.

While Hubster and I were watching TV in the bedroom the kids brought me the last birthday brownie warmed with melted butter on it and told me Happy Mother’s Day. Hubster was jealous and tried to convince them to make him a root beer float but he failed.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years….

we have had a really great holiday so far, my mom came for Christmas, and stayed for a few days, I smoked a prime rib for Christmas dinner and it was a huge hit. The kids got most of what they wanted, but they know not to expect everything on their lists.. (I encourage them to make long lists so I can pick and choose what I want to give them, and I tell them that Santa can’t get everything everyone wants, so they are happy if they get some of the stuff on their lists)

My oldest is thrilled with her high tops and mp3 player among other things but those were her favorites, my younger daughter is thrilled with her scooter and harmonica, something she had been asking for for several months, and my son is continuously building things with his much larger collection of legos and endlessly changing the track he insists is nascar for his motorized truck.

Hubster is thrilled with his made in the USA leather wallet and fishing chair that his children gave him (it’s a backpack beach chair, but we use them for lake fishing)

I am over the moon over the mixer that they all gave me, my old Kitchenaid was starting to give out and more than a few times I had discovered that it was too small for what ever dish I was making at the time. Now  I have a brand new 6qt, wonderfully large enough for what ever I choose to make, it has been put to good use already!

My dad has made a visit, and we were all thrilled to see him. My kids had a blast climbing all over their grandpa!

We are making plans for New Years. Since Hubster is off, we will probably watch movies all night long. I love an evening at home with my family!

Hubster and I were discussing gifts for the kidlets last week, we had most of the stuff we wanted to give them figured out and lined up, but we were one gift short for each of our girls, I had no clue what to give them, and Hubster got a brilliant idea (note sarcasm here) He suggested that I knit each of them a skirt. Well, immediately I had a response.. I can do that, but Girl 2 isn’t allowed to wear skirts much, as I am tired of seeing her butt. She is just way too much tom-boy to get away with them, so I decided I could go with a skirt and a sweater.

So the next morning, the 7th, I went to the store and bought the yarn for the projects and got started I finished the skirt first, all but sewing in the elastic for the waistband, on the 10th and I moved on to the sweater. I have done little more than knit since. I have listened to more daytime tv in the last 11 days than in the entire last year, but I did it. Last night I weaved in all the ends, sewed the elastic into the waistband and I boxed and wrapped both gift.

A skirt, (for a girl who wears a size 10) and a sweater (for a girls size 8) in 11 days. My hands hurt and I am sick of stupid daytime tv. but it is done.  Now to catch up all the stuff that has been neglected while I got those done, and get ready for our holiday visitors.

Wonderful Christmas here.

and I hope you had one too,

My kids made out like bandits, lots of toys, very few that take batteries or make noise, so a plus for me, a few movies too! That is something we will all enjoy.

I got 4 different books, 3 from my kids and a knitting book (EZ’s Knitting Workshop) from my mom, do they know me or what? Hubster got me a bath set and a car charger for my netbook, which I had specifically asked for. I am pleased, nothing huge (but I got a new computer a few months ago, and it was agreed that i would be my big Christmas present)

We had  plenty of family here, my mom and uncle were here for Christmas morning, and opening presents, and then my in-laws came for dinner. I fixed Prime rib and a whole spread, it was really great.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas too.

Wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday.

We ended up going out to my step-mother in law’s mom’s house  on Thursday evening, we spent the evening there, had a good time.

On Friday I cooked a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with Turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls and several other items. We ended up having a total of 12 people for Thanksgiving Dinner we had a blast. The kids played kickball outside, the adults found a movie to watch, much to my relief, and I didn’t have to listen to football at maximum volume.

Saturday I got up early and put a prime rib on the smoker, and then I went back to bed. I got up at a more normal time, and started my second big meal, scalloped potatoes, more sweet potatoes, grilled asparagus, more rolls. We ended up with 10 for that meal, and  I have to admit, it turned out even better than the Turkey.

The last of the guests left this morning and I have spent most of the day resting, after standing on my cement floors for the last 3 days, my feet, legs and lower back are hurting. Tomorrow the kids go back to school, and I will be thankful for the peace and quiet again.
