Tuesday….

Tuesday means a lot of things this week.

  1. My long awaited phone renewal date is today. Why have I been waiting for that? Because the external speaker on my existing phone has been cutting in and out for the last six weeks or so, making it very difficult at times to know when I have an incoming call. When the speaker is not working I have to either have the phone in my line of vision so I can see the screen light up or against my body in some way so I can feel it vibrate, not at all handy for a person who often has no pockets. I know what phone  I want, the trick is finding it for a price I’m willing to pay.
  2. A late evening for the family, the kids and I have 2 practices, starting at 5:30 and ending at 9pm, not overlapping, which at least means no rushing back and forth between them to get the kids there on time, or pick them up, but because Hubster also has class until 8:30, it means that all 3 kids will be getting into bed after bedtime.
  3. Three books on my want to read list are released today. Most notably, or more accurately, the one I’m most eager for, is Spider’s Revenge by Jennifer Estep, it’s the latest in the Elemental Assassin series.
  4. I need to go to my step-mom’s house and see if I can figure out what’s wrong with her computer, it’s connecting to the internet but not letting her browse, I suspect I accidently disabled something last night when I was trying to get her to connect, before I remembered that Dell computers running XP use the Dell utility to connect to wireless networks. It really shouldn’t take me that long to fix.
  5. It’s Tuesday… That means NCIS is on, even if I’ll be busy when it airs, my DVR will catch it (and my other Tuesday night shows) and I’ll get to watch it once I get home.
  6. Another hot day. It’s officially fall now, but it seems someone has forgotten to tell Mother Nature that 100+ degree temperatures are not a fall thing, they’re supposed to be relegated to the days of summer… I want cooler weather.

Yes, I’m alive…

Life has just been insanely busy. Three kids on three sports teams, plus two school, on top of Hubster being in school too has led to a totally insane schedule. With the exception of nights that storms cancel things, we have had at least one event every weekday night for weeks. And now we’ve started soccer games on Saturdays. There are evenings when I do nothing but drive for 3 hrs straight trying to drop each kid off, and pick them up on time. I need more time in the day… I need fewer things to do.. and I need a car (at least for around town driving) that gets better gas mileage.

To top it all off, my A/C quit on Saturday… Hubster was in a tizzy, understandably to an extent, we just replaced the water heater, we can’t afford a major A/C repair right now… We called the maintenance company anyway (we’ve been using the same company since we moved in.) They told me a Saturday call is over time, that’s $90 an hour… how much is weekday calls? $75 an hour… really? I expected the difference to be much larger…  After about 10 seconds consideration, I told them to come out anyway… My justification? I would have spent far more than $15 on food for the weekend after I refused to cook in a house that’s 90 degrees inside. See… I was saving us money.

Anyway, the A/C guy shows up… looks over the thermostat inside, sees what’s going on, and goes up on the roof to look at the unit… He was up there less than five minutes before the A/C turned on. HALLELUJAH!! (btw, that’s a funny looking word) He billed us for a full hour, as they charge travel time too, I don’t really care, I had my A/C back and that’s what really mattered. Turns out it was a burnt wire and Hubster stressed that whole time for a very small issue, typical.

Back to the point, I’m alive, at least for now… Our family’s insane schedule hasn’t killed me yet..

The downside of visiting family

is that after a few days you come to realize why you like living out of the immediate area.

Today was day eight of our visit, and I am ready to be home, in my own bed, with Hubster sleeping beside me. My own bathroom, my own shower, and my kitchen.

I am ready to not be in the middle of the huge amount of family drama that you get when you are surrounded by this much family. Most of it isn’t bad, but you always have a percentage of make you crazies… unfortunately, with the size of our family, the actual number of crazies seems high.

First you have my Bitchy Sister… whom, 9 months before she turned 30, suddenly told her husband of about 8 years, that she just isn’t happy and she wanted a divorce. Come to find out, she had been seeing a guy from work, who wasn’t separated from his wife either at the time…Boyfriend later leaves the wife, but soon gets caught driving drunk, at over 100 miles an hour, with his kids in the car. Said offence, if convicted will get him fired, so he quits his job before a conviction, after which he spends 90 days in jail.

Bitchy Sister is waiting for him when he gets out, and he lives off her for the next few months… they break up, she finds out she is pregnant, they get back together. About 5 months later, when she is about 6 months pregnant she finds  out that he has never had a job, he has another girlfriend. He tells her he is going to work, then goes to the other girlfriend’s house. Bitchy sis throws him out, and live moves on.

I come down for a visit, take my kids to see her older daughter (6). While we are there she is telling me about this huge bash she has planned for the whole weekend of her birthday over Labor day weekend, with lots of booze and partying. Baby was born while we were here, daddy visits her in the hospital, and all seems to be hunky dory. I visited her in the hospital, and before the baby was 12 hrs old she tells me… Now I can have a beer and a cigarette! (Bitchy Sister is allergic to cigarette smoke) Bitchy Sister goes back to work in 8 weeks and has no child care lined up.

*shakes head* Her life, and her attitude make me glad I don’t speak to her much.

While visiting Bitchy Sister in the hospital, Princess (step)Sister shows up.. background on Princess Sister… She is 22, has been married 18 months, to the man she has been seeing since she was 15 and he was like.. 24. She has never had a job, she has no real life experience. She is 7 months pregnant, and has Gestational Diabetes. I ask what kind of diet they have her on… she says she put her self on a very low carb diet because the dietician she saw “Didn’t say nothin’ you couldn’t find on the internet”

So sitting in the hospital with Bitchy Sister, Princess Sister does nothing but bitch about how she can’t eat anything, and how she is the only one pregnant now… How she hates being pregnant and wants the baby to be born NOW.  By the way, Princess Sister did NOT quit smoking when she got pregnant.

*So glad I don’t deal with her on a daily basis*

Next we have bull riding cousin. He is not the brightest light on the family tree. Apparently, a couple of months ago he and his wife (whom he isn’t actually married to, they just told the whole family that they are) got into a huge fight and he took off… From what I hear, he went to a city about 2 hrs away and shacked up with an old girlfriend for 6 days. Everyone here was panicked, filed a missing person’s report, had all the cops in the state hunting for him… in the mean time… His “wife” dumped their son on some family member, told them she was going to a job interview in another city, 3 hrs in another direction, and went to shack up with one of her old boy friends, for several days.

She comes back… he comes back, he figures out what she has been up to, and confronts her about the lie… but they are apparently fine with it, and back together… I am told that epic fights between these two are regular occurrences.

*Another one I am glad I don’t deal with on a daily basis.*

Oh.. and the other thing I don’t miss… the constant hounding from some of my family about “The Church” . I have some pretty strong feelings about “The Church” but they aren’t the ones that my family is hoping to nurture.

What is it about 4 year old boys?

if it isn’t one thing he is thinking up 3 more to do…

And the bathroom humor? Does it never get old? I have heard ‘If it poops, you scoop” about 40 million times. And can someone please explain to me why it is so humorous to either wedgie his sisters, or father, or to shove something in their underwear? What is the obsession with butts?

I give a child a job… usually one of the older kids, and the 4yo will incite them in not doing it, whether by making faces at them, telling them stories, to distract them, picking at them, hitting them to get them to chase him.. I swear, some days I wish I had pulled the car seat out of the car so I could strap him into it for a few minutes.

And while I am at it, it isn’t just the 4 year old… my 8 year old took a crayon and wrote the 4 year olds first initial in the middle of his forehead. WHY???

I realize I am totally nuts.

but it got in my head tonight to see exactly how fast I knit… so I knit for 10 seconds then counted the number of stitches I made in that time… then multiplied by 6 to get my # of stitches per minute…
54 stitches per minute, but while knitting socks magic loop, it takes time to flip from one side to the other, and that slows me down some…

I said that I totally realize how nuts I am… but it was fun to do…

24 hrs in..

I have finially lost it.

This afternoon, as my husband got ready for work, he asked if I could drop one of his uniforms off at the cleaners this afternoon, I said sure, no problem, I could hit the grocery store while I was out…

So, while I waited for my 2 year old to wake up from his nap, my 8 year old and I baked a batch of cookies, and I made a list of what we needed at the grocery store (not much, mainly oranges, because I have been eating tons of them.) After my son woke up, I got him all ready, and off we went.  We hit the dry cleaners and there was a line, so it took me a few minutes to get that dropped off, but not too long. And then we hit the grocery store. First, i realized I need to lift my 35lb child in to the cart, or he will be running wild, the only lifting limit they gave me was day of surgery, after that it was as I feel able. So I tried, and lifted him into the cart, with no pulling or pain, we are good, off we go. We get our shopping done, beef was on sale, buy one package, get one free, so I ended up getting more than I had planned, and then I noticed that a 10lb bag of potatoes was $1.49, so I got two, yes, two, because MIL will be here next week and potatoes are a cheap filler for meals. Plus, I will be making a holiday meal for her, and then a few days later, again for my mom. I did get oranges… but did I mention that we made it into the grocery store at 5pm on a weekday? it was packed. it took us 45 minutes in there. *gasp* oh, they had alcohol on sale too, so I got some of that, stocking up for the visit.

I am  not sure if  I classify as crazy for taking 3 kids to the grocery store alone, 2 days after surgery, or if the taking them pushed me into it… either way, commit me.
