Why Me?

my 6 year old is about to make me insane. She keeps chasing her brother around the house and taking his toys away, just to hear him scream. I think they are both very, very close to bed! And only an hour early!

Swimsuits. argh.

I knew my girls needed new swim suits this year. Their old ones were just too tiny, and plumb worn out. So I started looking. I hit my staple store, the local Super Walmart, and look around. they had about 10,000 two piece suits and maybe 15 one piece suits. So I start digging. I am not going to buy my 6 year old and 8 year old two piece suits, partly, cause I refuse to allow my 6 and 8 year old children to dress like they are 20!

I did finally manage to find two one piece suits, in the right sizes, that didn’t have legs cut to the armpits. They are kinda plain, no cartoon characters, no really wild colors, but they are still cute, and seem sturdy enough to last at least the summer.

I got it, I got it.

Blood Noir that is, the lastest book by Laurell K. Hamilton. I started reading it last night, and I finished this afternoon. I really enjoyed it, we got a totally different, and far more in-depth look at Jason and the relationship between Jason, Anita and Nathanial. Not nearly enough Nathanial in the book to suit me, but I always lust after him. I have just been totally engrossed in this book, I really enjoyed it.

I also worked on a couple more dishcloths while I read. And ran errands for hubby to get ready for his Annual training. And got kids ready to go to school and out for the day there.

I am hot and tired. i think I will just dig up a movie and sit in front of the tv and knit on my shawl.

About to embark

on a 3 week episode of single parenting. We do this at least once every year, as Hubby goes to his National Guard Annual Training. Sometimes more for other training, whether with the military, or his civilian job. I like to use this time to get some major work done around the place. Spring cleaning type, clean out and re-arrange the garage, clean out the kids room, while getting rid of stuff.  Without hubby here to distract us, or interrupt us with *urgent* trips to the store for what ever frivolity, um, really important crap, um, item, he has thought up this time. I can get something accomplished, and some of the crap he refuses to throw away, gone, without him noticing.

Plus, I have the the trip that my older kids will be taking with  my mom this summer to use as a bribe, um, incentive, to help, if they work well enough, I will give them spending money for the trip. See, aren’t I a mean, um,  an enterprising mom?

it’s here… it’s here… mwahahaha

my order… from knit picks… it is here. *said in best Igor (from Frankenstein) voice*

Ok, I admit it, I have a serious knitting/yarn problem, and you know, admitting it is the first step! Unfortunately, the second step is wanting to change, and I just haven’t gotten there yet. I am enjoying my addiction, um, hobby.

I got 4 cables, and 5 sets of needle tips, just in time too, cause I managed to borrow A Gathering of Lace this morning, so that I can make the Rainbow Ripple shawl out of it… and I was just waiting on my new needles to get here to get started. I won’t be making mine rainbow colors though, and I think I will dye it after I am done.

Now I need to go through my knitting tool box and see what needles I can get rid of (was planning on these knit picks options needles replacing a lot of what I have on hand.) Also between the Rainbow Ripple shawl, and my mystery shawl KAL starting in a couple weeks, I should be full up on projects for a while. and I can also revert back to dishcloths for short, quickly finished items when I feel that need. Current count on  dish cloths, after the 2 I finished at SnB this morning… 41.

Today just seemed

to slide by. I did get several things done, but nothing huge, and nothing that took a really long time.

I got my oldest off to school, and played with the baby some as he was being weird this morning. And I started my middle child in getting ready for school, when hubby decided he wanted me to go to the store and get him some things for his lunch. I figured I might as well do my shopping while I was there, so I got the groceries and stuff I had been needing. The major items that I got were two cantaloupes and a watermelon. I cut them all up and put them in (separate) containers in the fridge. If it is all cut, and in the fridge, my kids will eat TONS of fruit, plus, with the heat we will be getting soon, the cool fruit for lunch and dinners works really well. Plus, it keeps me from having to heat up the house with cooking. I will continue to keep fruit cut and in the fridge. I think it will end up cutting my grocery bill too.

I realized I am missing a book this afternoon, my Paperbackswap acct says that I received it on May 2nd, and I vaguely remember getting it, and thinking that i was not quite ready to read it just yet and that i needed to put it away, but I have no clue what I did with it. Not that I am ready to read it just yet, but it is bothering me to have it missing. I have checked every where I can think of off hand, including that black hole behind my desk, to no avail. Hopefully soon it will occur to me where I put it.

Because of the great book hunt, and other small chores, I didn’t get much knitting done… only about half of a dishcloth. *sigh* and my order from knitpicks still isn’t here… I think the mail man is holding it hostage. Maybe a nice glass of iced tea would be ransom enough in this heat?

Today is the day. *sob* Blood Noir by Laurell K. Hamilton, was released today, as was Blue Smoke and Murder by Elizabeth Lowell, and I didn’t manage to acquire either (ok, I admit it, I was too cheap to pay hard cover prices for either of them.) I have them both on my wish list on Paperbackswap, and it is only a matter of time, but *sob* I want them NOW!! ok… I will quit pouting now.

been thinking

trying to come up with something profound and deep to say about turning 30 today. I failed. I woke up this morning to my grandfather calling to tell me happy birthday, which I really appreciate, he has 5 grandkids, and 13 step-grand kids, and I am the only one he can remember when their birthday is. He knows about when all the others are, but he never remembers the exact day. (He has never been great with the passage of time)  So him remembering mine always makes me feel special.

The kids are out of school today (school doesn’t let out till mid June here) and I have them convinced that even the school district realizes that Mommy’s Birthday is a holiday, one of my better ideas. After that we got the kids all ready, and Hubby took us all out for breakfast.  So much nicer than having all 3 kids beg for something different, and hubby want yet another breakfast.

After we got home I went and hit the local Starbucks for a Mocha for hubby, black tea for me, and all the coffee grounds I could find. We are still gathering coffee grounds and spreading them on the grass to keep cats away. It is really working, but it takes a LOT of coffee grounds to cover a 1/3 acre lot. Plus, it is really good for the grass too.

I also managed to get a nap in this morning, before hubby went to work, it was so nice. The girls are watching TV in the other room, while the baby is napping. I think I may read and knit my afternoon away. and considering little pizza’s for dinner. hmm…

I did it . I finished the series (what has been published) before the new one is released. The new book Blood Noir, won’t be released for another two days. I am ok with that, I can get some things done around the house. Work on reading some of the stack of books I have sitting here, so that I can get them back on the Paperbackswap list. I also have to do really  mundane things.. like make a grocery list and go shopping and um… life… man.. I hate when life gets in the way of reading and knitting.

On another note. I have finished 35 dish cloths in the last few days.. ok, more like couple weeks. Hubby is asking me if I am planning on selling them. Hadn’t occurred to me, but since I pretty much came up with my own pattern, I can sell them of I want to. Which reminds me, I need to get pictures up and a post about my stitch markers.

In a mood today.

I don’t want to interact with anyone, I don’t want to have to get up and do anything. I don’t want to have to take care of the kids, I don’t want to have to cook dinner, or change diapers, fill cups, referee fighting kids. I want to hide, and knit, and read. I have one book left in the series I am reading, at least until the new one comes out on the 27th. But I have several other books here, waiting for me to read them. *sigh* Time to climb out of my cave and get something done.

oops, I did it again.

I went by Jo-Ann’s to get some more cotton yarn for dishcloths, because I was down to just one  ball left. I get inside and discover that Sugar and Cream is on sale, so I end up getting more than I had intended when I walked in.

I have discovered that I can get 5 cloths out of 2 balls of yarn, so every colorway that I bought I bought in pairs of skeins. I got 5 sets, hopefully these will last me longer than the last 10 skeins I bought…

Hey! at least Christmas gifts will be ready early this year!
